On Saturday, on the streets of Cortez, many local residents came together to exercise their constitutional right of peaceful protest. Old friends, neighbors and relatives lined Main Street with diverse opinions on homemade placards.
The shared communal spirit represented unity and concern for our country. County sheriffs, Cortez police and the Colorado Highway Patrol made sure people were safe, escorted some across the busy street and provided a reassuring presence.
Local organizers provided water, organized protest songs and thanked the large crowd individually for coming.
Protesters from Cortez, Dolores, Mancos, Rico, Telluride and all over the county joined for peaceful protest. Proud to be an American is not just a song.
