Bev Muir is safe and sound after wandering off Montezuma County Road P and rolling her small SUV shortly after noon on Tuesday, but she hopes her inattention and bad luck prompts pavement fixes.

“They’re too narrow and too steep. They don’t conform to width or drop-off requirements she said.

Muir was on her way to a physical therapy appointment in Cortez in her white Toyota RAV4 when she went off the road. When she tried to return to the road, the edge of the pavement gave way, causing her to roll.

“If not for (the pavement giving way), I’d probably have gotten back onto the road,” she said.

Muir, who was less than a mile from her home, said neighbors want the county to improve the area’s roads.

“They need to do something about these roads because someone is going to get hurt. When it snows, everyone drives in the middle of the road because you don’t know where the edge is,” she said.

Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll said he hadn’t heard about the crash. The trooper on scene declined to speak about the accident and directed questions to CSP media relations.
