The woodwind quintet WindSync, a young ensemble that mixes familiar classical music and lighter tunes with a captivating stage presence, performed on Friday, Feb. 9, at the Montezuma-Cortez High School auditorium.

WindSync broadens appeal of the woodwind quintet to reach a wide audience. The quintet is composed of players on the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn.

Their mixture of “classic” wind instrumentals and twists kept the audience entertained and even laughing.

The stage presence of the quintet led to those laughs, teaching techniques along the way through their performance.

The group was truly “synced” at their performance on Friday night, pulling in the audience with doleful tones, then kicking the music up with percussion techniques.

WindSync is internationally recognized for dramatic and engaging interpretations of classical music. A winner of the 2012 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the ensemble focuses on building a connection with audiences through adventurous programming and charismatic stage presence. The five virtuoso players perform from memory and specialize in creative concerts that inspire and entertain audiences of all ages.

The concert was sponsored by the SouthWest Colorado Concert Association.

WindSync’s performance was the opening act of the second part of the concert season.
