When leaders lie, children learn it

Do you remember Ronald Reagan's “Trickle Down Theory?” The concept promised broad economic benefit, but in practice it only benefited the wealthy and never reached the middle class or the poor. That mindset sent prosperity spraying upward rather than down.

Now we have a new trickle-down effect – and it is far more corrosive.

Our president and his allies in government believe it is acceptable to lie and cheat with reckless abandon, without accountability or compunction — no guilt, no second thoughts, no shame. When leaders lie and cheat — whether they are heads of state, clergy, or heads of households — it trickles down to every aspect of society. Especially to children.

Most children have an innate ability to recognize dishonesty and meanness. But eventually, too many are taught by selfish and angry adults that it is acceptable to treat others badly, to lie and to cheat. That is the generation we are shaping right now.

It is time to remove the self-serving liars and cheaters, from the top down.

It is patriotic to want the best for our nation. It is patriotic to resist illegal and immoral actions by our government. Act now to protect our elections, our children, and our future.
