Junior Raegan Veach led an offensive outburst from the Panthers (2-6) as they collected their first wins of the season at Englehart Field on Saturday morning. Veach accounted for five hits, five RBIs, and seven runs between the two contests, while first-year head coach Anthony Mestas saw contributions from up and down the batting order. Sophomores CeJae Snyder and Paislee Mestas enjoyed multi-RBI days in the opener, before classmates Ava Hawkins and Tori Lopez drove in multiple runs in the second half of the doubleheader.

Junior Jayden White turned in a solid pitching performance in game two, with the Panthers allowing their stingiest run total of the season behind White’s seven strikeouts. The Panthers scored in all but one inning in both contests combined, pounding 19 hits and capitalizing on 15 drawn walks.

The Bears opened up their season with an impressive sweep of three opponents in tournament action from Crested Butte, not conceding a set during the entire weekend. Dolores (3-0) looks to continue their strong start when they travel to M-CHS (2-0) for a battle of unbeaten programs on Tuesday, Sept. 2 in The Jungle.

Mancos (3-4) split their four matches in Kremmling over the weekend with the beginning of San Juan Basin League play on the horizon. The Bluejays open with a big home match against Ignacio on Tuesday night to get the highly anticipated SJBL slate going.

Monticello 3, Dove Creek 0

Dove Creek (1-5) fell to border rival Monticello in their lone action of the weekend while the ‘Dogs get set for league play to begin for them as well on Tuesday night with a home match against Telluride.

Boys Soccer

Eagle Valley 8, M-CHS 1

The Panthers (1-2) dropped their Saturday encounter with the 4A Devils and now get set for consecutive matches against Telluride and Moffat County on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6 from the M-CHS field.
