A pair of narrow victories in DeBeque have the Bears heading into the holidays with one of the strongest starts in program history. Head coach Nick Traweek’s crew improved to 5-2 as they pursue the first winning record since the 2016-17 season.
The Bears will take their holiday break before returning to the floor on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for the first of two meetings with Monticello inside DHS Fieldhouse.
M-CHS 58, Rehoboth Christian 34
The Panthers shook off a slow start to pull away from the host Lynx as M-CHS (3-0) continued their unbeaten start. M-CHS outscored Rehoboth 26-9 in a decisive second quarter to create separation, while their defense held a third consecutive opponent to 40 or fewer points.
M-CHS jumps up in classification for two of its next matchups, facing former Southwestern League foes Grand Junction Central and Grand Junction, as well as Moffat County over the weekend of Dec. 18-20.
Rangely 45, Dove Creek 27
After leading through the opening quarter against the host Panthers, Dove Creek couldn’t sustain its offensive momentum as the Bulldogs dropped another tough road test.
Dove Creek will host its annual Holiday Classic on Dec. 19-20 inside the Dawg House to open its home slate and round out the 2025 schedule. The Bulldogs face Monticello on Friday at 6:30 p.m., while Nucla and Telluride will duel in the other semifinal.

The Jays dropped to 1-4 after a pair of challenging contests against the host Bruins and a rematch with Sargent. They look forward to a few weeks of preparation during the holiday break before San Juan Basin League play begins Jan. 8, when Mancos entertains Ouray.

Coming off an impressive midweek win over Ignacio, the Bluejays couldn’t get the offense going against two tough 2A opponents. The Jays (1-4) turn to league play in the new year with Ouray visiting Thursday, Jan. 8.
Dove Creek 44, North Park 41
The Bulldogs toppled a longtime 1A district foe to open play in Rangely before falling to the host Panthers. Head coach Julie Kibel’s team awaits Monticello for the Holiday Classic opener Friday at 5 p.m. in the Dawg House. A win would send Dove Creek to Saturday’s championship against Nucla or Telluride.

The Bears hung tough with two opponents in DeBeque, giving DHS confidence heading into the holidays and a chance to fine-tune before league play begins in January. Dolores opens 2026 with a home contest against Monticello on Jan. 6.

More than 40 teams competed in Montrose for one of the season’s biggest wrestling showcases. M-CHS senior Rusty Snyder and Dove Creek freshman Conner Horn-Beanland delivered standout performances: Snyder went 6-1 to earn third at 144 pounds, while Horn-Beanland placed sixth at 132 with a 5-3 record.
Panthers Teagun Samora (120) and Bodie Stiegelmeyer (113) each finished 2-2, while Bulldogs Chad Kline (144) and Keaton Banks (106) also posted 2-2 marks.
Mancos was led by Tegan Mestas (138) and Levi Gardner (165), who each went 2-2.
Dolores competed in Price at the Dave Smith Memorial Duals hosted by Carbon High School, led by multiple wins from Mason Hill and JJ Robson in three dual victories.
Panthers finish midpack at Western Slope Showdown
The Panthers held their own in Montrose as CeJae Snyder (115) and Paislee Mestas (120) placed second and fourth, respectively. Kai Ashmore (170) added a sixth-place finish, while Baylee Molzahn earned two wins at 100 pounds.
M-CHS took 12th as a team and looks ahead to the Grand Junction Central Warrior Classic next weekend.
