Vote ‘yes’ on High Desert mill levy

Now more than ever, we need the expertise and on-site services of the High Desert Conservation District, whose existence is threatened by a lack of funding. The district is seeking a 0.5 mill levy to provide the sustainable funding it needs to continue to provide services. The educational programs and technical assistance provided by the High Desert Conservation District have been an invaluable resource for me. I have used their no-till seed drill, assistance with drip and other irrigation practices, and high tunnel techniques. The High Desert Conservation District’s presentation of a nine-week Master Land Steward Program in 2014 taught how to enhance our hay and pasture fields, promote wildlife, fire mitigation, high tunnel production and much more. This class and other district-sponsored educational sessions have also been great opportunities to network with others involved in agriculture in our area.

The High Desert Conservation District has provided me with a greater appreciation of the importance of farming and ranching in our area, the many diverse agricultural activities that go on here, and the importance of this for future generations.

I support the mill levy, and I encourage others to do the same. Vote “yes” to preserve our farming and ranching heritage and unique quality of life.
