Veterans Thru Horses Eyes is held at McGee Park

Veterans Thru Horses Eyes was a community networking event held Wednesday, March 27, at McGee Park. Hands-on activities were held to demonstrate how something such as grooming a horse can be helpful in lowering blood pressure.

Raymond Balone of Shiprock served as a Marine at the end of the Vietnam War. He loves horses and took a turn at grooming the 3-year-old gelding Poco, from Mullens Equestrian Services of Bloomfield. Also available at the event was a wealth of information about veteran resources.

One goal of event organizers was to try and gauge interest in a number of activities for veterans to deal with issues such as traumatic brain injuries or PTSD.

In addition to Mullens, other community organizations participating included Capacity Builders, Together with Veterans, and Remedy Reins Therapeutic Horsemanship Program.
