UPDATE: Woman killed in rollover crash north of Cortez

The woman was still alive shortly after the crash, but she died at the scene, he said. The crash was reported at 1:52 p.m Thursday.

The pair were traveling in a 2016 Buick Enclave southbound on U.S. Highway 491 and approaching the intersection when the vehicle drifted into the northbound lane, went through bushes and hit a power pole. The vehicle then rotated and tipped onto its right side, he said.

No excessive speeds, drugs or alcohol are suspected in the incident. The driver was wearing a seat belt. Law enforcement is investigating the possibility that a medical condition played a role in the crash, Cutler said.

It’s unclear what the relationship was between the man and woman. They have different last names, Cutler said. He did not identify the man and woman.

The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control, Sheriff Steve Nowlin said Thursday, and the Colorado State Patrol handled the investigation.
