Two more Ignacio games pushed back

Bayfield adjusting schedule after week off
Ignacio High School Bobcats

The Ignacio High School boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to play at Del Norte on Friday. The contests, however, ended being the latest competitions that had to be postponed. IHS athletic director Leo Garand sent an email to media and staff on Friday saying the games had been canceled. No makeup date has been scheduled.

The Bobcats were scheduled to host Telluride on Saturday, but those games also have been moved. Ignacio is now scheduled to host the Miners Feb. 2, with the first game tipping off at 4 p.m.

Several contests were also canceled earlier in the week.

The Ignacio girls game Tuesday at Montezuma-Cortez was canceled because of COVID-19, Garand said.

Ignacio’s wrestling team’s Tuesday Triangular meet also was canceled, but a replacement competition was scheduled for Jan. 28 against Bayfield and Cortez.

The Bayfield School District closed its schools and canceled its high school sports events for the week. On the mat, that included a wrestling dual at Pagosa Springs on Thursday and a wrestling tournament Saturday in Aztec. Bayfield is now scheduled to wrestle at Pagosa Springs Wednesday and host Montezuma-Cortez, plus Ignacio, on Friday instead of Tuesday next week.

Bayfield basketball games Friday against Alamosa and Saturday at Montezuma-Cortez were postponed. Its girls game Tuesday against Durango’s junior varsity also was postponed.

BHS athletic director Andrew Duffy said he is trying and reschedule the contests.
