Two from Durango off to National Junior High Finals Rodeo

Bartel, Drumm heading to Iowa to compete

Two young rodeo stars from Durango will compete this week at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo.

Set to run June 20 through June 26, the 16th annual NJHFR will take place in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wyatt Bartel, an eighth grade student at Miller Middle School, will compete in saddle bronc steer riding.

Shylene Drumm will compete in a pair of events. The sixth grader from Mountain Middle School will show off her skills in breakaway roping and goat tying.

The NJHFR, the world’s largest junior high rodeo, will see roughly 1,200 competitors from 44 states as well as athletes from Australia, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand. Action can be viewed on www.RidePass.com.
