A two-car crash at Empire Street and North Broadway sent one woman to the hospital Wednesday morning and led to the arrest of one driver.

According to the Cortez Police Department report, at 10 a.m. a woman driving a Jeep pulled out onto Broadway and struck the passenger side of a northbound Kia Telluride.

Passenger-side airbags on the Kia deployed, and a passenger complained of head pain. She was transported by ambulance to Southwest Memorial Hospital.

The woman driver of the Jeep did not have a driver’s license and had a warrant for her arrest, according to the report.

She was arrested for the warrant and issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and failing to yield the right of way when proceeding from a stop sign.

A child passenger was in the Jeep, and two children were in the Kia. Occupants in both vehicles were all wearing proper seat belts, the report stated. Both vehicles suffered significant damage and had to be towed.

The crash was witnessed by a Cortez police officer who was driving by.
