Turquoise Raven Art Gallery in Cortez seeks submissions for rock music-themed exhibit

Exhibit to be held in June

The Turquoise Raven Art Gallery in Cortez is accepting artwork submissions until May 30 for its upcoming show, “Rock Stars of the 60s, 70s and 80s,” which will run Thursday, June 4 through Saturday, June 27.

Local and regional artists are encouraged to submit up to three pieces that highlight icons in rock music, which the gallery noted includes soft rock, hard rock, heavy metal, psychedelic and other popular genres such as folk, pop, blues, soul, Motown, British Invasion, disco, reggae, hip hop, new wave, punk, progressive and new age. Submissions may feature individual artists, unforgettable concert moments, expressionist or abstract works, poster art or memorabilia.

Accepted mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache paints, as well as pastel, pen and ink, charcoal. Collage and mixed media, block prints, etching and printmaking, sculpture and textiles are also accepted.

Artificial intelligence-generated works or standalone photography will not be accepted, though the gallery noted that photography may be incorporated into mixed media pieces.

An opening reception is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. June 5. Appetizers and refreshments will be served to attendees.
