The advantage of democracy is that voting gives the average person a small piece of real power – it is the bedrock of America’s strength. Any decree or law that takes away the vote leaves citizens powerless.
Trump will never allow an inquiry into the 2020 election because he knows he would lose. His popularity is sinking, and attorneys are abandoning the DOJ like rats leaving a sinking ship. He knows his party would lose votes, putting Congress at risk of flipping. His claim that thousands of illegal immigrants voted for Biden is a completely manufactured lie – but his base loves that lie, which is why they support it. His followers will never fact check anything he says. They hate that his loss to Biden was legitimate. Love the lies, hate the truth.
Because he cannot afford to lose, Trump is attempting to take control of elections. He is taking a page from Josef Stalin’s playbook. Stalin said it makes no difference who people vote for – what matters is who counts the votes. Trump wants to make sure he counts the votes. We voters must make sure he doesn’t.
Trump is like Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro, who after counting the votes claimed to have won their last election, yet steadfastly refused to let anyone examine the ballots. Similarly, Trump won’t allow anyone to inspect the 2020 ballots – just as he refuses to release the Epstein files.
