For the fourth year in a row, San Juan College will celebrate Arbor Day by giving away free trees to the community at 8 a.m. Friday, near the Cultural Center in parking lot F.

San Juan College Grounds crew has grown more than 500 trees in several varieties to give to community members and students for this year’s giveaway. Trees are planted in paper pots to reduce the use of plastics. Trees available include oaks, desert willows, catalpa and piñons.

Since last year’s tree giveaway, the grounds crew has been growing trees in the campus greenhouse, especially for this event.

San Juan College was first designated as a Tree Campus Higher Education campus in 2020 by the National Arbor Day Foundation, a national honor and a selective application process.

Trees will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
