Three applicants have thrown their hats into the ring to become the next judge for San Juan County Court in Silverton.
According to a news release from the Colorado Judicial Branch, Shane Goranson of Durango, Kelly Tompkins of Silverton and Laura Freeman of Montrose applied for the judgeship.
“County court judges are appointed to one county and handle civil actions less than $25,000, minor criminal matters and traffic cases,” said judicial district spokeswoman Amy Woodward. “Sometimes they also handle probate and juvenile cases as well.”
Whoever is appointed will preside over any cases within the jurisdiction of San Juan County, the release said.
Public comment is open regarding the candidates until 4 p.m. Friday, and can be e-mailed to judicial.vacancies@judicial.state.co.us.
