The Bridge shelter plans fundraiser

Greek, Korean, Italian, Mexican and Irish. A soup from each will be featured Saturday at a fundraiser for the Bridge Emergency Shelter.

“We are hoping to raise $5,000 to be put towards our general operating expenses,” said shelter director Laurie Knutson.

Volunteers make the soups, and the event also includes soup bowls available for sale that were handmade by SWOS students. The bowls are $10 each.

“Claudia Sanderson-O’Hara, a local artist and SWOS art teacher, and Janet Lever-Wood, a local potter, were instrumental in making this bowl-making project happen,” Knutson said. “Rita Stramel of SWOS was also very helpful in setting up this project.”

The fundraiser also features auction items. Four of Raven House’s artists - Collette Webster, Marilyn Kroeker, and Mary and Rob Wilson - have donated clay and copper bowls for the auction, and Painted Turtle - owned by Jaime Becktel and Sarah Allen – have also donated handmade clay bowls.

The 7th Annual Soups of the World fundraiser starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. The event is held at First United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10, but children under 12 are free.
