Talented musical expeditionaries perform in Dolores

Suitcase Junket and Carsie Blanton on musical journey
Matt Lorenz, of the one-man band Suitcase Junket, will perform at the Dolores River Brewery Oct. 5.

The folk-blues fusion of Suitcase Junket and singer-songwriter Carsie Blanton will fill the music hall of the Dolores River Brewery Oct. 5 beginning at 8 p.m.

The talented duo are bona fide musical expeditionaries on a journey across America.

Singer-songwriter Matt Lorenz is the multi-instrumentalist of Suitcase Junket, performing folk, blues fusion, and psychedelic rock. The Amherst Massachusetts-based artist recently released the album “Mean Dog, Trampoline,” produced by Steve Berlin, of Los Lobos, who also produced guitar legend Leo Kottke’s music.

Lorenz’s writing and guitar romp around topics ranging from moonshine to runaway kites, according to his website.

Carsie Blanton will join him on stage, and she also has an original musical pedigree. She left her home in Luray, Virginia, at 16, and has toured the U.S., Europe, and Australian with Paul Simon, The Wood Brothers and others.

“I write great songs, and I cover great songs that I love,” she says on her website.

She describes her latest album, “Buck Up” as “a hopeful, funny album about devastation and dread.”

Rolling Stone said the album “tackles gender expectations, genre norms, societal expectations and sex through songs that are as smart and funny as they are well constructed.”
