Pueblo Community College, Southwest Campus received two new Subaru vehicles in October for students to train on in the automotive technology program.

“The students really enjoy working on high-tech vehicles with the latest technology,” Bill Kuik said in a news release.

An ongoing partnership with Subaru made it possible.

According to the news release, early college students (high school juniors and seniors) are prime candidates for the program and will be job-ready as soon as they graduate the program.

In addition, the Cortez Police Department donated bulletproof vests to the Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy.

According to the news release, the cadets will wear the vests under their uniforms in class to prepare them for when they are working as law enforcement officers.

“We train for real life,” Law Enforcement Academy Director Anita Seamans said. “We want them to get used to the uncomfortableness.”

The campus also had a visit from U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez.

In partnership with the PCC Community College Foundation, Pueblo Community College, Southwest Campus hosted a Community Education Breakfast on Oct. 27, and Tipton toured the campus.

“This is an amazing facility filled with passionate instructors,” Tipton said. “I am proud to represent the area in Colorado that houses this facility.”

Registration for the spring semester at Pueblo Community College, Southwest Campus began Nov. 6.
