Students rewarded for academic achievement

Thirty-six students receive cash prizes from Colorado Legacy Schools
Thirteen of the Montezuma-Cortez High School students receive prizes for academic achievement at Friday’s pep assembly.

Montezuma-Cortez High School students who achieved Advance Placement scores were in for a surprise at Friday’s pep assembly.

Colorado Legacy Schools donated $4,600 to M-CHS, and Principal Jason Wayman decided to give the money to high-achieving students.

Students who achieved Advance Placement scores of 3 to 5 were awarded $100 to $300, depending on their scores. Scores were based on a scale of 1-5.

Twenty-seven students received $100, eight students received $200, and one student received $300.

Each senior student identified by Colorado Legacy Schools was given a Visa prepaid gift card at the assembly. The cards were purchased at City Market, which contributed $37 toward purchasing the cards.

The testing took place in May. Many of the students awarded were seniors who have graduated.

Alumni were instructed to pick up their gift cards in the M-CHS office.
