Masters swim program

The Cortez Leopard Sharks are offering a Masters swim program for anyone 18 years and older that includes swim lessons, fitness swimming, competitive swimming, open water swimming and triathlon swimming.

Practices begin Wednesday, June 1 at the Cortez Municipal Pool from 6-7 a.m. and will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The cost is $35 per month plus US Masters registration.

10K Geer Park run

A 10k running race on singletrack trails begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at Geer Park, 25502 Road L. All proceeds go toward local trails through the Montezuma Land Conservancy.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Prizes and raffle items will be available.

Register online at ultrasignup.com or on race day for $25 cash or check.

Youth fishing tournament

The Cortez Kiwanis Club and Groundhound Lake RV Park are sponsoring a youth fishing tournament on Saturday, June 4 for kids 16 and under.

There is no registration fee and the first 20 registered will receive power bait, night crawlers, sinkers, hooks and a nylon stringer.

Registration is from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and weigh-in is at 1 p.m. with prizes for the largest fish in inches, total weight of four fish and youngest participant with a catch.

Skate 4 Life competition

4 Corners 4 Life presents the fifth annual Skate 4 Life competition and music festival on Saturday, June 4 at the Cortez Skate Park.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., BMX competition is at 10 a.m., skateboard competition is at 10:30 a.m. and the music festival follows at 2 p.m.

Fishing festival and derby

The City of Cortez and Dolores River Anglers are hosting the seventh annual Fishing Festival& Derby on Saturday, June 4 at Parque de Vida pavilion and pond.

There will be lessons on fly casting and fishing, as well as fly tying.

Youth (10-17) will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m., adults (18+) will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m., a fly casting accuracy contest will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and a fishing derby will be from 5 p.m. to dusk.

Junior golf lessons

Junior golf lessons are available at Conquistador Golf Course for youths ages 6-17.

The lessons cost $50 and will take place between 8-10 a.m. from Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 10

Cortez basketball tourney

The Montezuma-Cortez High School boys basketball program will host the Best of the 4 Corners Basketball Tournament from June 10-11, 2016.

There will be five boys divisions: 5-6 grade, 7-8 grade, junior varsity, varsity and men’s open (18+).

There will be four girls divisions: 5-6 grade, 7-8 grade, junior varsity and varsity.

The cost is $315 per team and each team is guaranteed a minimum of four games.
