Heavy metal is coming to Mancos for the next Grand Summer Night.

Metal art demonstrations that is.

On Saturday, for the latest rendition of the town’s monthly celebration, local metal artists and blacksmiths will take over Pioneer Park with demonstrations of their craft. These demonstrations will start in the morning and continue through the evening.

In addition to metal crafting, other festive activities are planned.

At Fahrenheit Coffee, attendees can glimpse a preview of “The Blacksmith,” a comedic opera set to be performed at the Mancos Opera House in spring 2020. The preview will star Andrew Saletta, a Mancos music teacher, and Ryan Brown, the artistic director of Opera Lafayette, which is putting on the opera.

More art demonstrations will be on display at the downtown galleries, including gourd art by Janice Reich and metalwork by Marilyn Kroeker at Raven House Gallery. Event-goers can also partake in carriage rides and kids activities throughout the evening.

Navajo fry bread and music by singer-songwriter Lynne Lewis will be on hand at the Kilgore American Indian Art Gallery, while music by the Moetones will begin at Fenceline Cidery beginning at 7 p.m.

The Moetones are a Cortez-based “vintage country and rock ‘n’ roll band,” according to their Facebook page.

Grand Summer Nights Heavy Metal Mancos will take place from 4-8 p.m.
