Southwest Memorial Hospital welcomed its first baby in its new facilities on Wednesday, June 20 at 8:45 p.m.

Kelton Elijah Dunn came in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20.5 inches long.

Kelton was born to Analisa Dunn and her husband, Korey Dunn, from Monticello, Utah.

The Dunns said they chose to come to Cortez for the prenatal care and delivery because of the staff and facilities at Southwest Memorial, Analisa Dunn said.

The Dunns planned to take their baby boy home last Friday to meet his big sister, 10-year-old Elaina Dunn.

“She is just so excited to help out with him,” Analisa Dunn said.

Southwest Memorial recently held an open house for its $32 million campus expansion, including a new patient wing and updated family birthing center.

The large, sunny rooms include tubs for mothers, scales, infant-washing sinks and baby warmers, and a nursery is nearby.

Security features are extensive. Each baby wears an electronic band, and alarms go off if it is removed or falls off. Access to the center is tightly controlled.
