Southwest Health System marks hospital week with 5K, staff events and fiesta

Events will be held mid-May to honor health care heroes

Southwest Health System will celebrate National Hospital Week from May 10 to May 16 events honoring its health care professionals and their vital contributions to the community. The weeklong festivities, aligned with the national theme #WeAreHealthCare, will highlight the dedication of SHS staff through community engagement, themed activities and staff recognitions.

The celebration will begin May 10 with a 5K Race at 9 a.m. Staff and residents are invited to join the fun run and help foster community spirit and promote health. It will start and end at the hospital, with the course to be determined.

Preregistration is available, but not necessary. Leashed and friendly dogs are welcome.

SHS will host themed activities and giveaways for hospital staff, recognizing their health-care efforts, May 12-15.

Mustache Day will be May 12, followed by Twin Day on May 13 and Wild West Day on May 14 and Time Travel day on May 15.

On Friday, the hospital will host a community fiesta from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The celebration will feature a free taco bar, cake and piñatas. The fiesta will be held in the Medical Office Building parking lot, 1311-A N. Mildred Road. Visitors should bring their own chairs/blankets.

National Hospital Week is observed annually to commemorate Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12. It was established by the American Hospital Association.
