Town officials met Monday to address how to effectively handle the pressures of mounting piles of snow.

“This has been a heavy snow year,” said town administrator Andrea Phillips.

At a town meeting on Wednesday, Grand Avenue resident Gina Roberts lodged a citizen’s complaint regarding the town’s snow removal efforts.

“I’d like to know if there’s an actual plan, or are we just winging it again this year?” Roberts asked town board members.

Roberts complained that town streets had yet to receive “curb to curb plowing,” stating the snow created dangerous conditions for both traffic and pedestrians. She also asked why property owners were required to shovel sidewalks within 24 hours of a snowstorm while the town-owned sidewalks remained un-shoveled for two weeks.

In response, Phillips said snow removal remained a priority, indicating the town may hire an outside contractor to assist with clearing town streets of piles of snow.

“The snow is problematic,” Phillips said.

Interim Mancos Marshal Jason Spruell said officials were working to enforce street parking, so plows were able to operate. Spruell said the town had recently issued 36 warnings for parking violations.

To help alleviate the strain, Phillips said town officials would hang door tags informing residents when to alternate street parking for snowplows.

Unbudgeted for 2016, town leaders also voted to purchase a snowplow blade for a current public works truck. The cost was estimated at about $5,500.
