Sign up for Arts Festival and Studio Tour

The Jackson family looks like a "real mean" Western gang.

It's almost time for the Great Mancos Arts Festival and Studio Tour. It'll be on June 14 this year.

I already have 11 artists signed up for 2014, and am looking for an additional dozen or so. Last year, we had 22 different stops on the tour. The Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce has been very generous this year, helping with the cost of ads in all the area newspapers, and the Mesa Verde travel planner - which is sent all over globe per tourist requests. So, you artists out there who haven't signed up yet, please let me know if you'll exhibit and demo this year. The more the merrier! Contact Dian for details, at 533-7536.

Mancos in Motion

The reception for the Mancos in Motion has been moved until the night before the Cowboy Marathon.

The reception will be on May 16, and the race will be on May 17. The weather will be warm, and the days long. Stop into the Mancos Town Galley (in the Visitor's Center 103 E. Bauer at Boyle Park) The reception will run from 5-7 p.m. with refreshments available.

Time for planting

Jama Collins, our intrepid "town beautifier" wants all people who have green thumbs or not to pitch in and make Mancos gorgeous for our summer visitors. If you have plants or pots or whatever, contact Jama (799-8859) and let her when and how you can help. She also is looking for volunteers and donors to assist with this project. We're especially anxious to get the downtown area looking its best as the folks from Denver will visit at the end of May to determine if Mancos will receive its official "Creative District designation. We are part of a group of ten, vying for seven spots. We are the smallest town of the group - and we have more art!

Summer is a-comin' in

More art events which will happen during the summer.

In conjunction with Mancos Days, there are two events - "Sharing the 81328 Perspective" a community photo show and "The Cowboy Photo Booth. The "81328" exhibit consists of photos taken by 20 different amateur photographers with disposable cameras. This year's theme is "The Cat's Meow." If you want to be a camera person this year, contact Patricia Burk, Ginny Getts or me. The Cowboy Photo Booth is in its 4th year. We provide the setting and the photographers. You just show up with your whole family and we do the rest, dressing everyone in fabulous western gear. Then we print your holiday cards, "wanted" posters, etc., within an hour! This'll happen on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27.
