Wednesday, May 28

3:53 a.m.: A deputy attempted a traffic stop at Road G and Road 25 near Cortez after a man on a dirt bike failed to stop at the intersection. The rider fled north on Road 25, reaching speeds of 80-90 mph and running multiple stop signs through Oak Street, West Fourth Street, and South Cedar Street. The pursuit was terminated near South Broadway. The rider was not identified.

Saturday, June 7

6 p.m.: A deputy responded to a fight between two men in the C Unit of the Montezuma County Detention Center in Cortez. One man claimed the other attacked him after a handshake; the other said he was headbutted first. Camera footage showed a scuffle inside a cell, but the first strike was not visible. The case remains under review.

Sunday, June 8

6:17 p.m.: A deputy reviewed footage of a fight earlier that day in the F Unit of the Montezuma County Detention Center in Cortez. A man was seen choking another man unconscious after being spat on. The aggressor was booked on a felony hold; the other man was issued a summons.

Tuesday, June 10

12 p.m.: A deputy followed up on a June 8 report from a man in Dolores who said a neighbor’s dog entered his yard at 204 N. 20th St. and killed chickens. The dog had dug under a fence from 1906 Hillside Ave. The neighbor refused to speak with the complainant or deputies. Citations for vicious animals and dogs at large were prepared.

11 p.m.: A deputy assisted the Mancos Marshal at Montezuma County Detention Center in administering a breath test to a woman. The test showed a BAC of 0.116.

Wednesday, June 11

12:40 p.m.: A deputy responded to a report of a missing trailer plate at McPhee Marina, 27356 FSR 271 near Dolores. A man said the plate had been missing since May 1. The plate was entered as lost in NCIC/CCIC.

Thursday, June 12

12:12 a.m.: A deputy responded to Love’s Gas Station at 7006 U.S. Highway 160 near Cortez for a report of a woman using a stolen debit card. The woman said the card belonged to her husband. The man was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

10:46 a.m.: A deputy at the Montezuma County Detention Center in Cortez served two warrants on a man transported by the sheriff’s office. The man was booked without incident.

11:28 a.m.: A deputy responded to 11668 Colorado Highway 145 near Cortez for a theft report. A woman managing an estate sale said items left outside were stolen sometime between June 10 and June 12. The estimated loss was $570. There were no witnesses or surveillance.

Friday, June 13

9:56 a.m.: A deputy stopped a woman speeding on North Mildred Road in Cortez. The woman admitted to speeding and lacked proof of insurance. Her license was suspended. She was cited for driving while suspended and no insurance.

4:22 p.m.: A man turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center in Cortez on multiple warrants, including trespass, menacing, resisting arrest, DUI, and other traffic violations. He was booked without incident.

5:30 p.m.: A deputy working security at the Ute Mountain Rodeo at 30100 U.S. Highway 160 near Cortez found two dogs locked in a hot car for nearly four hours. The owners, two women, were cited for animal cruelty.

Saturday, June 14

12:15 a.m.: A deputy stopped a red Honda hatchback at 302 W. Main St. in Cortez for lacking license plates. Two passengers were arrested on active warrants. One woman was later taken to the hospital for a scan before being booked.

1:30 p.m.: A deputy assisted Cortez Police with a trespassing case at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. A woman was taken into custody, and the deputy retrieved a receipt from loss prevention.

Sunday, June 15

5:42 p.m.: A deputy responded to a crash at Road 27 and Road H near Cortez where a man drove through a fence. The man showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking. He was taken into custody after refusing roadside tests.

11:59 p.m.: A deputy stopped a sedan on Road M near Cortez for using a blinding lightbar. The driver, a juvenile woman, lacked valid insurance and was cited for insurance and lighting violations.
