An elderly man reported that four unauthorized checks totaling $2,800 were written from his account, along with $150 in missing cash. The man suspected his grandson, who later admitted to taking the checks. A warrant was issued.
2:25 p.m., a deputy responded to 6894 Road 24 in Cortez for a report of a dog bite. A man and woman were bitten by a dog while visiting a storage facility. The woman sustained a puncture wound to her calf, and the man had a scrape on his knee. The dog’s owner later provided vaccination records and signed a home confinement agreement.
7 a.m.: A deputy responded to the Baymont at 2279 Hawkins St. in Cortez for a reported theft. A man reported that two full gas cans, valued at approximately $30 each, had been stolen from his trailer overnight. A search of the area yielded no leads.
4:04 p.m., a deputy responded to 18396 U.S. Highway 145 No. 7 in Dolores for a report of a stolen firearm. A man reported that his Savage 22-250 rifle was taken from his locked vehicle overnight. He suspected a woman who knew the key code but did not wish to press charges, only to have the firearm returned. The woman did not answer a call, and a voicemail was left.
At 4:17 p.m., a deputy responded to the Montezuma Combined Courts at 865 N. Park St. in Cortez for a man remanded into custody. The man was searched, handcuffed, and transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center to serve a one-day sentence for contempt of court. He was booked without incident and left in the care of detention staff.
4:18 p.m., a deputy responded to 28260 U.S. Highway 160 No. 35 in Cortez for a reported assault between two women over use of a hot water heater. A mutual physical altercation occurred, and both were issued summonses for harassment.
9 a.m., a deputy met with a man and woman at 102 N. Fourth St., Dolores, regarding ongoing harassment and trespassing by a neighbor. Incidents included tampering with a vehicle, trespassing caught on camera, and damage to a compressor. A report was filed for documentation.
11:20 a.m., a deputy followed up on a dog ordinance violation at 706 Hillside Ave., Dolores. A man was warned for his dog running at large and was later arrested on a Texas warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
