Recently, I attended a meeting of the League of Women Voters.

The presenters were: Montezuma County Commissioner Jim Candelaria, Montezuma County Assessor Leslie Bugg and Cortez Fire Protection District Chief Jay Balfour.

These three city officials explained that Proposition 120 is not the gift it seems to be. The reduction of taxes would be for multifamily dwellings, agricultural land and transient housing like motels and hotels. Single-family homes would receive no tax reduction.

Furthermore, if Proposition 120 passes, we would lose funds from our tax base, causing reductions of the budgets of the fire department, school system and police department. I say no. What do you say? Respectfully,
