A 17-year-old male who ran away from a youth camp at Lost Canyon Ranch on Haycamp Mesa was found later that day at the Days Inn in Cortez.

Fifteen searchers on foot and ATVs were on the lookout for Quinn Trabulsy, who reportedly was not carrying any water or backcountry gear.

Lost Canyon Ranch is located off the Haycamp Road (FS Road 556) southeast of Dolores.

“He walked from four miles up Haycamp Mesa, traveling across country to Cortez with no shoes,” Sheriff Dennis Spruell’s Facebook page said late Thursday afternoon. “He is very tired but safe.”

The boy called his mother from the Days Inn. His mother called a counselor at Open Sky Wilderness Therapy, and the counselor called law enforcement officials at about 3:30 p.m., the post continued.
