After undergoing major repairs, the boat ramp at Navajo State Park is open to the general public for boat launching.

The boat ramp was resurfaced and extended another 300 feet into the reservoir.

“This will be a huge improvement for our park users,” Doug Secrist, park manager, said Monday in a news release.

The nuisance species inspection station is open, and inspectors will be available during the early season from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Boaters must have their boats inspected before launching. Boats should arrive at the inspection station clean, drained and dry, with mud and dirt removed from all parts of the boat and the engine.

A boat will be processed faster if it has a seal attached, and the owner can present the receipt that proves the boat was inspected at lakes or reservoirs in Colorado, Wyoming or New Mexico that are not suspected of containing nuisance species.

All camping facilities at the park will be opened by April 15.

The marina dock and fueling facilities are expected to open by the beginning of May.

The news release also reminded boaters to have proper-fitting life jackets for everyone on the boat. All children under 13 must wear life jackets at all times. Colorado Parks and Wildlife strongly recommends that all boat passengers wear life jackets at all times.

Navajo State Park, located near Arboles in southwestern Archuleta County, draws more than 300,000 visitors every year.
