‘Reject proposal’ for luxury RV camp

The Roberts Resorts Village Camp is totally inappropriate for the Animas Valley. This proposal would have extremely high impacts on the valley and its current residents, including wildlife.

The Hermosa Sanitation District was designed for residential use only, and would be compromised by this high-density commercial development and chemicals that are used in RV sanitation systems. The greatly increased traffic on Highway 550 and on the very narrow County Roads 250, 203 and 252 would be both a nuisance and danger to valley residents.

The congestion at the Trimble Lane light and railroad crossing would create a problem for all travelers on Hwy 550 – it’s already congested. This also brings concerns of compromised evacuation responses – 280-plus huge, luxury RVs, driven by folks unfamiliar with this area, trying to navigate these small roads during a natural disaster (such as the Missionary Ridge and 416 fires) sets the stage for chaos.

This type of traffic also poses potential hazards for cyclists and pedestrians. This development – the size of a small town – packed alongside the river and flood plain could create serious disturbances to wildlife as well. Please, contact the La Plata County Planning Department (www.co.laplata.co.us/services/community development) and ask staff members to reject this proposal.
