The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado recently filled two vacancies on its executive committee.
The vacancies were created when Kelly Koskie of Cortez and Todd Weaver of Archuleta County moved out of the area. Chauncy McCarthy of Rico and Cassie Alexander of Cortez were approved to fill the positions during the board’s meeting April 24.
McCarthy works as the town administrator of Rico and represents Rico on the board. Alexander, vice president and senior loan officer for First National Bank of Cortez, is Montezuma at-large member of the committee.
The two join five other executive committee members: William Tookey, county administrator and chair; Mary Jo Coulehan, Pagosa Springs chamber director and vice chair; Dan Fernandez, Dolores at-large member and secretary; Colleen O’Brien, La Plata at-large member and treasurer; and Clyde Church, La Plata County.
The nonprofit Region 9 works “to enhance economic conditions” and “improve economic prosperity” in Southwest Colorado, according to its website. It serves the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta and the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribes. They offer business loans for “gap” financing, enterprise zone information and grants.
They also partner with community organizations, governments and those in the private sector to assist in special projects that stimulate job creation and retention and economic expansion.
