Reflecting on vets who lost lives

Between bicycle events and barbecues, please take a few minutes this weekend to reflect on the many, many who have given their lives in this country’s wars to defend democracy.

The American flag includes that reminder, and this Memorial Day weekend many flags are visible.

To participate in a memorial service in Durango, join Vietnam vets at 10 a.m. Monday at Iris Park on the Animas River at the firehouse, and for all wars at noon at Greenmount Cemetery. At 12:30 p.m., a wreath will be floated in the Animas at Rotary Park for those lost at sea.

Wars that included large numbers of dead are fading into history, but the loss of life with military service continues. Remember this weekend that family member or friend and all of those who were taken from us in service to this country.
