Purgatory Resort announces holiday festivities

Both Purgatory and Telluride have majority of trails open

As the new year approaches, Purgatory Resort has numerous attractions going on to bring excitement to 2024.

Purgatory hasn’t seen any snowfall in the last few days, and it has a base depth of 20 inches. All 11 lifts are open, and 87 out of 107 trails are open.

Telluride has a snow depth of 25 inches and hasn’t seen any new snow in the last few days. Fifteen of 17 lifts are open, and 82 of 147 trails are also open.

Below is a list of upcoming attractions at Purgatory:

New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show, 6 p.m. Sunday

Watch patrollers and ski instructors ski down the mountain, lighting up the night with bright torchlights. There will also be a fireworks display over the snow-covered mountains, with festive music and seasonal drinks.

Snowcat Scenic Tour, open daily (through Jan. 7)

It’s a fun outing for the entire family with spectacular panoramic views. The snowcat ride lasts about an hour. The tour itself lasts about two hours, and patrons can enjoy a cup of hot cocoa. The tour features three trips per day with various dates this season, with tours departing at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

PSA Guided Cat Skiing opened Saturday

Purgatory Snowcat Adventures is Colorado's largest snowcat skiing operation, with 35,000 acres of guided skiing for advanced to expert skiers and riders. Trips can be booked online at purgatory.ski.

Guided Snowshoe Tours season kicked off Dec. 23

Explore Colorado's beautiful San Juan Mountains on a snowshoe tour with an experienced guide. Tours depart twice daily at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Alpenglow Snowshoe Tours season, held monthly, begins Jan. 20.

Inferno Mountain Coaster open on weekends, throughout holidays

This ride features breathtaking mountain views of the Twilight Peaks, thrilling twists and turns, and lightning-fast descents. It’s open on weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.

Purgatory’s Tubing Hill open through Jan. 7

Fly down high-speed, snow-covered tubing lanes at Purgatory's Tubing Hill in the Columbine beginner area. Grab a tube, choose a lane and enjoy the ride. It’s open from 3-7 p.m. on weekends and daily throughout the holidays through Jan. 7.
