DENVER (AP) – Protesters are coming out in force after federal authorities in charge of saving wolves from extinction made their case to end protection of gray wolves.
Authorities want to shift resources to the recovery of Mexican wolves.
According to the Denver Post, senior U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service scientists told people at a public hearing on Tuesday in Denver that reintroduction projects have been successful and gray wolves are no longer endangered.
More than 350 wolf advocates oppose the federal push to lift protection. They favor continued federal protection so that wolves that wander beyond their current stronghold in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho will have a better chance of survival.
