The Presbyterian Peacemaking program will host international peacemaker Thang Van Lian at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church, 350 S. Washington St. He is traveling throughout the U.S. and speaking about his home in Myanmar.

The community is invited to hear Pastor Lian share insights on the situation in Myanmar. He will speak about a country in the grips of civil war for 50 years and about the government of Aung San Suu Kyi, which has been silent about the refugee crisis with the Rohingya people, many of whom remain in refugee camps in Bangladesh.

Van Lian also will discuss how Christian communities and the people of Myanmar can work for reconciliation, peace and justice in the face of ethnic conflict, human rights violations, poverty and oppression.
