Police investigate double stabbing under Broadway Bridge

Farmington police arrest woman involved on public drinking charge
Bernadette Velasquez

Farmington Police Department is investigating a double stabbing that occurred at 3:20 p.m. June 26 under the Broadway Bridge.

Police were called to the scene in response to two individuals having been stabbed. Upon arrival they located a group of individuals and a possible suspect leaving the scene.

One of the officers told another officer that “he assumed one of the individuals leaving the area was the suspect,” said Shanice Gonzales, spokesperson for Farmington police, adding she did not know if the suspect was detained.

Police, however, did detain Bernadette Velasquez, 43, of Farmington. Velasquez was brought into the police department for further questioning.

“She appeared to be highly intoxicated,” Gonzales said, adding “during the interview, Bernadette had a bottle of Importers Vodka in her possession with half the contents missing.”

Velasquez was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on possession, consumption, sale or service in a public place.

Police are continuing their investigation into the double stabbing, and Gonzales said both victims survived the attack.
