Thursday, March 14

8:23 a.m. An officer took a report from a woman at the Cedar Terrace Apartments, 417 S. Cedar St. for a vehicle break-in and the theft of a credit card.

11:01 a.m. An officer at the Cortez Police Department took a report from a man for a stolen red Specialized bike with white stripes from his garage in the 500 block of N. Harrison St.

7:02 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI with three or more convictions, reckless driving, failing to notify police of an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, failed to stop at a stoplight, driving while license is revoked for DUI refusals, open container in a motor vehicle, and drove an uninsured motor vehicle. The arresting officer served the man with Colorado’s proof of service and a Colorado express consent. The man reportedly hit a car at the intersection of the 500 block of E. Main St. left the scene through the City Market parking lot and went to Sonic, where he was found and arrested.

3:58 p.m. An officer took a report for a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of E. Main St. and Madison St., a man was cited with careless driving for colliding with a vehicle in front of him at a pedestrian crosswalk.

11:54 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of a protection-order violation that states he shall not possess or consume alcohol or controlled substances, he was cited with failed to present proof of insurance, and drove vehicle when license under restrained HTO. The arresting officer served him with proof of service at Super Splash, 1640 E. Main St.

Friday, March 15

7:14 p.m. An officer issued a summons to a man for trespassing at the Cozy Inn, 440 S. Broadway.

8:01 p.m. A man was arrested after a reported REDDI was dispatched to law enforcement for a suspected drunk driver in Montezuma County. The vehicle was located and stopped at the East Y, 2500 E. Main St., by a Cortez Police officer; the man driving was arrested on suspicion of DUI, weaving, drove vehicle other than vehicle equipped with interlock device, possessed open alcohol container in motor vehicle, and possessed open marijuana container in motor vehicle. The arresting officer seized his Colorado driver’s license and executed the express consent affidavit and a notice of revocation.

Saturday, March 16

4:48 a.m. An officer responding to a business security alarm call arrested a woman on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or both and careless driving in the parking lot of Four Corners Chiropractic, 440 W. Main St. The woman’s vehicle was high-centered on a stone retaining wall outside of the business.

10:56 a.m. A woman who frequently visits the residence of a person who has a restraining order on her in the 1400 block of Navajo St. was arrested because she overslept and the restrained party reported her, when she got home after working a night shift.

6:45 p.m. A woman reported finding a chain saw in her city trash can in the 900 block of N. Henry St. The chain saw was retrieved and placed into evidence.

7:11 p.m. Officers arrested a man at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. An off-duty officer heard an intoxicated man yelling inside the store and found him to be harassing customers. The officer assisted on duty-officers in detaining the man on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction of a peace officer.

Sunday, March 17

12:16 p.m. A woman was arrested for violating a never-expiring trespass order at City Market, 508 E. Main St.

9:09 p.m. An officer took a report for a possible protection-order violation from a woman in the 1500 block of E. MacArthur Ave.

11:05 p.m. An officer took a report from a man for property damage to his vehicle outside The Bridge Emergency Shelter, 735 N. Park St. The reporting man claimed to have been sitting in his inoperable vehicle nearby sharing alcohol and marijuana with another man, who suddenly became aggressive and belligerent, claiming to be a “sureno and a blood.” The man reported that the suspect broke a beer bottle outside of his vehicle, got back in the car and threatened to cut him. Shortly after the reporting party’s failed attempt to deescalate the situation, the suspect proceeded to throw a rock through his passenger side window and the reporting man ran toward the shelter for help. The officer stated in his report there was no rock found in the vehicle, and no suspect was found to validate the report.

Monday, March 18

9:37 p.m. An officer arrested a woman who was turning herself in on a warrant to the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. Subsequently the woman was issued a summons for a felony second-degree assault for spitting on the arresting officer after he took her to be medically cleared because he was notified she just had hip surgery.

11:07 p.m. An officer responded to a call for an active fight outside of Kemper Elementary School, 620 E. Montezuma Ave. A man was arrested on suspicion of a Class 5 felony menacing for threatening to use a gun to cause harm, harassment and assault in the third-degree. Charges stemmed from substantiated reports from witnesses that the man attacked two women, who fought back. The man followed the two women after they told him they did not know him. The man reportedly grabbed one of the women, and when the other woman attempted to separate them he head-butted her. The other woman called 911, while the other woman who was in fear for her life then pulled out her 9 mm handgun while being punched in the face, the man then stated he also had a handgun, but continued to punch the woman. She then used the handgun to strike the man in self-defense and when he started reaching for his bag the woman with the gun grabbed his bag pointed her gunpoint blank at his stomach, then she “quickly moved her gun off him and fired, intentionally missing him.” The man then stopped and attempted to flee as the woman held onto his bag. The man in his attempt to get away wiggled out of his jacket releasing him from the bag completely, leaving his identification behind. The man was then found at the Bridge Emergency Shelter the next morning claiming his injuries were from a woman who attacked him.

Tuesday, March 19

2:41 a.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of violating a trespass order at the Colorado West Trailer Park, 1410 N. Mildred Rd.

9:52 a.m. A woman was arrested on a warrant at the corner of Maple and Main.

12:11 p.m. An officer took a report for a dog attack in the 100 block of S. Washington St.

5:53 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a possible active assault, at Longs Trailer Park, 1016 E. Main St. A man and woman were cited with indecent exposure for having intercourse on the side of the road in plain sight of the public.

Wednesday, March 20

10:18 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an illegal weapon and indecent exposure at the Johnson Building, 925 S. Broadway.
