Damaged private property

Tuesday July 22

7:42 p.m. A man was using a knife to cut through a window screen in a house on West Fifth Street. The man had just been speaking with the police a few minutes previously. A police officer who questioned him asked if he had a knife and the man responded: What knife? The police officer asked if he was trying to break into a house. The man asked: What house? The officer handcuffed the man at that point. The occupants in the house said the man was beating on the house and back door before damaging the screen.

Drug possession

Monday July 21

7:58 a.m. A sheriff’s deputy saw a man with two active for his arrest in a red Toyota mini van at the Handy Mart. The deputy called a police officer who followed the van down Road G and pulled him over. Before the van came to a stop a deputy saw passengers stuffing something under the seats. A K-9 officer was called in and his police dog sniffed out two methamphetamine pipes in a pair of blue swimming trunks. The officer also found white residue in the pocket of the swim trunks. One of the men eventually claimed the trunks and the residue later tested positive for methamphetamine. Marijuana and a marijuana pipe were also found in the van.

Saturday July 19

11:39 p.m. A police officer observed a Chevrolet Blazer traveling northbound on the 200 block of South Maple Street without registration. The officer stopped the car and the driver explained he did not have insurance or registration. The officer arrested the driver for an outstanding warrant. After he was taken to jail a deputy found a 1.4 grams of suspected cocaine in the driver’s property.

Shoplifting

Friday July 18

1:20 p.m. Three teenage boys were stopped shoplifting in Wal-mart. One was found stealing a skateboard and cans of spray paint. He was still in the juvenile diversion program for underage drinking and possession of marijuana and he took responsibility for taking the items. Another boy who refused to give the police his name to police was asked not to return to Wal-mart.
