Wednesday, July 10

A woman called to report that her son had been in a fight at Blondie’s. The officer received information from her and talked to her son and his co-worker. The co-worker said that two men in the bar were harassing an elderly man so he went to stop it and that’s when he got hit. He said his co-worker then tried to help and he also got hit in the face. Later that day, the woman’s son came into the police station and explained what happened. His side of the story was the same as that of his co-workers but added that he had a broken nose. The officer asked the man if he could describe the two male subjects that started the fight. The man said all he knew about them was that the locals call them the “Cortez Bullies.” The officer then went to Blondie’s for a follow up. Some of the employee’s of the bar said they didn’t see the fight but had heard it and gave the names of the so-called “Cortez Bullies” sitting out on the patio when the fight started. Digital photographs of the man’s broken nose were placed into evidence and police are going to follow up with the other employee of Blondie’s who also was working that night.

Sunday, July 14

Police responded to City Market for a welfare check on a male who fell out of his wheelchair. The man was lying on the ground and his face was bleeding. Numerous people were standing around the man trying to help him up but the man was yelling and cussing at them. The officers grabbed the man under his arms and helped him back into his wheelchair. The man had two bottles of alcohol with him at the time he fell. When police tried talking to the man, he continued to yell and cuss at them. The man told the police that they hated him and that he also knew where they lived. The man was asked by a City Market employee to leave the parking lot, and he refused to leave. The man was arrested, and while being transported to the jail, he was kicking the windows and banging his head on the cage. Upon arrival at the jail, the man asked why he was there and told the officer that he could not kill him there. The man also asked the officer how he was going to kill him. The result of his breath test was .237. The man was issued a summons for trespassing and then thanked the officers and explained that he respected them.

Tuesday, July 16

Police responded to the skate park after a report of an intoxicated female yelling at kids. Police could not understand the woman because her speech was slurred. The woman was drinking out of a juice container, which contained red liquid and smelled of an unknown alcoholic beverage. The woman told police she was drinking water and that she had just been released from jail earlier that day. Police then talked to the juveniles and asked them what happen. The juveniles said while they were riding their bikes when the woman had approached them and told them that her son was going to kill them and also made several other threats. The juveniles said that they just told her to leave them alone and at one point she began to chase them. The woman was arrested for disturbing the peace and possession of alcohol in the park.

Tuesday, July 16

A driver was pulled over because all of her vehicle windows had a dark tint and the windshield had several large cracks, obstructing the driver’s vision. As the officer was talking to the driver, he noticed a small child in the back seat sitting on a passenger’s lap. The driver said the car seat was in trunk because she did not have room in the backseat for it. The front passenger of the vehicle had a warrant and was taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle had denied driving privileges in Colorado. The driver was issued a summons for the following violations: Driver’s vision obstructed through required glass, failed to provide forward-facing child restraint system, and drove motor vehicle when license was denied.
