An officer walking behind Cortez Plaza at the old Wal-Mart parking lot could hear a female and a male talking very loudly. When the officer shined his flashlight and announced himself, everything got quiet. The officer walked over to a rock pile and observed two people lying on the ground pretending to be asleep. The officer announced himself again and at that point the two individuals sat up. When the man rolled over and sat up, the officer noticed his pants were partway down and the woman’s pants were partly undone.
The officer asked them if they had been drinking and they both said no. Since the officer could smell an unknown alcoholic beverage, he asked dispatch to run both of their names. Dispatch advised the female had bond conditions stating that she could not be in the possession or consumption of alcohol. The officer advised the woman that she was under arrest for violation of bond conditions. The woman began yelling and told the officer she hated him.
While the officer was searching the female her shorts fell down to her ankles and she refused to cooperate or help pull them back up. The officer told her that she would go to jail with no pants on, and the woman got in the patrol car with boxers on. After the woman was cleared at the hospital, a nurse assisted her in putting her shorts back on. At the jail, the woman took a breath test with the results being .264.
Thursday, Aug. 15
Police responded to West Seventh Street for a report of a disturbance. The officer could hear a woman yelling from inside the residence. A man answered the door and the officer asked him what had taken place. The man said he was standing outside when he asked a female walking down the street for a cigarette and his girlfriend became enraged. He said she pulled his hair and scratched him on the side of his face. Police observed a scratch on his face that appeared fresh.
The officer tried to ask the woman what had happened but she told the officer to not get any closer and refused to talk. Police arrested the woman and did not see any marks or bruises on her. Later they asked her if her boyfriend had hit her and she said no. Police also spoke with a neighbor who said that she heard a “blood-curdling scream” from the woman and that her boyfriend was trying to calm her down. She said that it’s not uncommon for the woman to scream and yell even when she is alone.
After speaking with the neighbor, the officer noticed the woman was slamming her head on the cage in the patrol car. She was transported to the jail and was served with third degree assault and domestic violence. The officer noticed there was a swollen bruise above the woman’s right eye; she was asked how she got the bruise. The woman said her boyfriend had slammed her against the floor and knocked her out.
Saturday, Aug. 17
Police arrived at a store to discuss a theft. The manager of the store told police that a female had taken a carton of cigarettes from behind the counter and left without paying. The manager showed the officer the surveillance video, which clearly showed the woman grab the carton of cigarettes and conceal it in her shirt. The manager wanted to pursue charges. The officer was able to contact the woman and asked her if she knew what could have happened to the cigarettes that came up missing. The woman said she was off her meds at the time and when she is off her meds she does stupid stuff and admitted to taking the cigarettes. The officer issued the woman a summons for shoplifting and also gave her a trespass notice.
Sunday, Aug. 18
Police reported to Wal-Mart for a man shoplifting. The asset protection employee told police that the male suspect had tried to leave the store with a basket full of items without paying for them, and she thought the boots the man had on also belonged to the store. The employee told police that the male had passed all points of sale and left the store. She said she went to stop him and at first he was being uncooperative and then after she called the police, he agreed to return the items. The officer asked the man if that was correct and he said it was. The officer asked the man why he took the items and he said it was because he was stupid. The officer then explained to him his summons for shoplifting and the man was released.
