Saturday, Dec. 23

4 p.m.: A man was arrested at Big R, 1319 E. Main St., on a Garfield County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge after Colorado Bureau of Investigations agents told police he was attempting to buy a gun at the store.

8 p.m.: Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Family Dollar, 324 S. Broadway. Store employees claimed a man had stolen a portable game player valued at $32. The employees provided a name for the man and a license plate for his vehicle, but responding officers were unable to immediately contact the man and found no record of the vehicle. The case remains under investigation.

Sunday, Dec. 24

5:29 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., after store employees claimed she had stolen a case of beer, a bag of grapes and a package of chicken wings, valued at a total of $22.74. The woman was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital after she reportedly told police she had been vomiting blood.

Wednesday, Dec. 27

11:55 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

2:06 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of South Cedar Street on three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

7:21 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of North Broadway on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

Thursday, Dec. 28

10:13 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of East Third Street on three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

10:59 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 400 block of South Market Street. A man claimed that his son had stolen two bicycles from his estranged wife’s house, and had stolen a miter saw, a cutting torch and other hand tools, valued at a total of $4,900, from his shed. Responding officers were unable to immediately contact the son. The case remains under investigation.

11:28 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

11:57 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. A man claimed a couple with whom he was staying had driven away from the library with his dog, an estimated $300 in canned goods and two blankets valued at $200 total on Dec. 18. Responding officers could not find records to match the names the man gave for the couple, but he reportedly told them the man had the word “evil” tattooed on his forehead. The case remains under investigation.

12:45 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Safeway, 1580 E. Main St. Witnesses claimed he had stolen three frozen pizzas, valued at about $15 each. When police confronted the man at his home, he reportedly said he had stolen the pizzas, and said he was “just trying to feed his family.”

3:56 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Maverick gas station, 455 N. State St., on suspicion of third-degree assault, criminal mischief and trespassing after employees reported she was smoking in the bathroom and taking her clothes off. When responding officers contacted her, she reportedly threw one of her shoes at one of them. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail due to apparent intoxication, and reportedly spit on and hit police and medical personnel while she was there. She also reportedly tore a hole in a chair armrest at the hospital with her teeth.

10:19 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Travel Lodge Motel, 1120 E. Main St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace after her mother and a man reported she kept bothering them and had broken a window in their RV. The woman’s mother declined to press charges for the broken window. The woman was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to apparent intoxication.

Friday, Dec. 29

10:54 a.m.: Police responded to a report of slashed tires in the 500 block of South Madison Street. A woman reported three of her tires had been slashed early in the morning, causing an estimated $1,200 in damage. The woman reportedly told responding officers she suspected her uncle or another man might have been responsible, but did not give a reason why she suspected them. The case remains under investigation.

2:53 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of North Harrison Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after he was pulled over for driving with an expired temporary permit. Responding officers gave him a verbal warning for the traffic offense.

4:37 p.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating municipal bond conditions after police responded to a report that he and another man had stolen a 30-pack of beer from the store. No employees with the authority to press charges were on duty at the time, so the men were not immediately cited for shoplifting, but one of them had bond conditions prohibiting him from drinking alcohol. When arresting officers told him to get into a patrol car, the man reportedly refused and started pushing them, leading one officer to expose him to a stun gun. During the arrest, the suspect reportedly threatened to shoot one of the officers. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to apparent intoxication.

7:21 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 N. Roger Smith Ave., on three warrants for failure to appear from Montezuma, La Plata and Dolores Counties, and on suspicion of violating a protection order after employees reported that he and a woman were refusing to leave the building and were spilling beer on the floor. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order. They were both medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Saturday, Dec. 30

2:16 a.m.: A man was arrested in the McDonald’s parking lot, 1200 E. Main St., on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and speeding. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

4:51 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 N. Roger Smith Ave., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and a protection order violation after employees reported he was part of a group of people bothering guests as they walked into the Center. A small bag of heroin and a small bottle of liquor were found in the man’s pockets.

7:54 p.m.: A woman turned herself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

Sunday, Dec. 31

2:25 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 8000 block of County Road 25 on suspicion of DUI, weaving and obstruction. When he was pulled over, the man reportedly refused to get out of his vehicle and said he was angry at the arresting officer for writing him a previous ticket. He reportedly refused to cooperate with any tests to determine his sobriety, and “taunted” officers throughout the arrest process.

4:48 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 400 block of South Ash Street on suspicion of domestic violence, third-degree assault, harassment and child abuse after a neighbor reported sounds of yelling and crying coming from his apartment. The woman reportedly told police she had hit her boyfriend, who had a protection order prohibiting him from contacting her, during an argument while their four young children were present. The boyfriend was reportedly sitting on top of a dresser next to a bassinet where a baby was sleeping when police arrived. He was also arrested on a warrant and on suspicion of domestic violence, violation of a protection order and child abuse. Both suspects were medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication and cuts on the head suffered by the man.

11:09 a.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 N. Roger Smith Ave., on suspicion of violating a protection order after police saw him standing near the woman who had the order against him.

12:47 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 1100 block of Cochita Drive. A man reported a bike valued at $150 had been stolen sometime between Dec. 22 and 30, while his family was out of town.

10:47 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 200 block of Maple Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

Monday, Jan. 1

12 a.m.: A man was arrested outside National Nine Motel, 301 W. Main St., on suspicion of violating bond conditions after he called police to ask for a ride to a gas station. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

4:11 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of West Fourth Street on suspicion of DUI and DUI per se after police responded to a report of a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. When responding officers located the man’s vehicle, it was reportedly parked on the lawn of a residence and he was attempting to get out while the engine was still running. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Tuesday, Jan. 2

12:29 a.m.: Police responded to a report of property damage at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. A man reported one of his truck’s tires had been removed sometime between 7 and 11 p.m. while he was at work. Walmart security videos reportedly did not capture anyone tampering with the vehicle during that time. The case remains under investigation.

1:37 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of West Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of an open container violation after police noticed him stumbling on the sidewalk with a bottle of vodka in his pocket. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

9:32 a.m.: A man was arrested at Burger Boy, 400 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting and disturbing the peace after City Market employees reported a man matching his description had stolen a 30-pack of beer. When officers contacted him, the man was reportedly urinating in an alleyway, for which he was also placed under arrest.

7:07 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the parking lot of Front Row Seat, 610 E. Main St., on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges and on suspicion of violating a protection order and false reporting to authorities after police responded to a report of a fight between her and five other people in the area. There were no apparent injuries in the fight, and witnesses could not agree on what had happened. The woman reportedly gave a false name to responding officers at first, but one of them recognized her from previous contacts. A man was also arrested on three Cortez municipal warrants. Both suspects were medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

7:29 p.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

8:57 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of West Main Street on three warrants for failure to comply on local misdemeanor charges and on suspicion of violating a protection order. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

11:39 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Linden Street on suspicion of driving under restraint, obstruction and driving with an obscured windshield after he was pulled over for driving with large cracks in his front windshield. When the vehicle was pulled over, it reportedly hit a fence near a residence on the road, and the driver and front passenger both switched seats and began to reach around and underneath their seats. A police officer drew his gun and ordered the passenger to put his hands on the dashboard. The other passengers in the vehicle reportedly said the driver was trying to get away from officers because he was on probation and didn’t want to go back to jail.

Wednesday, Jan. 3

12:32 a.m.: A man was arrested in the alley behind Blondie’s Trophy Room, 45 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report he was harassing female customers leaving the bar. When contacted by officers, he was reportedly lying on the ground with a broken beer bottle under him. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication. At the jail, he reportedly refused to get out of the patrol car, and an officer pulled him out by his coat collar.
