On Monday, the Cortez Police Department arrested Dustin Ray Wall on two warrants after he allegedly attacked a woman in the City Market parking lot in February.

A 911 caller told police that Wall was staying at his girlfriend’s house, acknowledging that he had warrants out for his arrest.

Police have been seeking Wall for assault and menacing since Feb. 23, when he allegedly attacked Charilyn Thomas in the City Market parking lot, pushing her to the ground and hitting her over the head multiple times with his handgun.

When officer Brady Veach arrived at the Cortez Apartments, 620 E. Empire St., around 11:46 p.m., the woman who called had told officer Trevor Robertson and Sgt. Rogelio Maynard that Wall was asleep in his girlfriend’s bedroom.

Veach said they woke Wall and told him he was being arrested on a warrant and arrested him without incident. He is now in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

According to police reports, Wall allegedly attacked Thomas in February after asking her to join him in his vehicle so he could apologize about a problem between them.

When Thomas refused, Wall reportedly pulled her from her vehicle and put a gun to her head while threatening to shoot her.

As Thomas fought Wall in an attempt to get away, Wall pushed her to the ground and hit her twice over the head with the handgun before fleeing the scene, police said.

Wall fled in a white Toyota Tacoma with Brittany Richardson. When police made contact with Thomas, officer Jason Giacchino said he observed that Thomas was bleeding from her head.

While police attempted to contact Wall at his home on Road T in Dolores, they were unable to locate him.

Christopher David, who was driving the vehicle that Thomas was occupying, told police that he believed Wall had pulled a .45-caliber handgun from his waistband when threatening her.

Wall will appear in court in the 22nd Judicial District on Wednesday, April 3, for his appearance on warrant and hearing on bond, and again on Tuesday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. for his return filing of charges.
