Last night, I watched the sci-fi classic ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes.’ It tells the evolution of a chimpanzee named Caesar under genetic manipulation to a semiliterate state of rising intelligence. Caesar then leads a revolt among captive chimps who escape, creating chaos as they flee to independence in a forest north of San Francisco.
This chaos reminds me that since the 2024 election, widespread chaos descended upon America in the form of a semiliterate president who considers himself a “bigly” imperial Caesar, not subject to any rule of law. With his puppet Republican Congress, we live now in the Planet of the Republicans.
Consider our state of affairs.
Republicans sabotaged the social security support system, firing crucial staff indiscriminately, closing local offices and reducing telephone access to remaining offices. Chaos erupted as social security recipients reported great difficulty trying to reach offices to handle their accounts.
Consider the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Republicans reduced NOAA staff so much that the National Weather Service no longer can conduct their full range of observations to support their forecast duties. Republicans ended all NOAA scientific research which develops instrumentation to understand our atmosphere better.
Consider Medicare and Medicaid which provide health care to tens of millions of Americans without medical insurance. Republicans plan to cut $880 billion from those programs. They appointed an anti-vaccine medical illiterate who recommended vitamin A to cure measles. Children suffered liver damage from this disproved remedy.
Remember Nov. 3, 2026 – the next election – and vote.
