Petrox Resources proposes drill site in San Juan National Forest

The Journal

Petrox Resources has proposed developing existing Fruitland coalbed natural gas leases in the Fosset Gulch area east of Bayfield on San Juan National Forest, state, and private lands within the eastern HD Mountains of Archuleta County.

The proposal includes the construction of an 8.6 mile pipeline, construction of one new gas well pad, and the redrilling of two existing gas wells. Horizontal drilling techniques to drill multiple wells from each pad would be used. This technique reduces the possible surface disturbance compared to drilling individual pads.

The Forest Service is asking for input during a 30-day scoping period to ensure that all issues are identified for consideration in an environmental analysis document. The scoping letter and a map can be found at www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=53825. Input is requested by Sept. 28. A public comment period will then be offered to review the draft environmental document.

Written input may be submitted by mail or in person or before Sept. 28 to San Juan National Forest Headquarters Office, 15 Burnett Court, Durango, CO, 81301, Attention: Walt Brown; by Fax to 970-375-2331; or by email to wabrown@fs.fed.us.
