Morefield open for off-season camping

Morefield Campground, located four miles within Mesa Verde National Park, will be open for off-season limited camping beginning October 12 through November 1. Camping will be permitted only in Zuni Loop on the Pueblo Road.

Camping fee is $20 per night, per site. Camping fee for holders of the Senior and/or the Access Pass is $10 per night, per site.

Purgatory unveils recent upgrades

Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is adding 11 new energy-efficient snowmaking tower guns and a high-output fan gun as part of its offseason improvements.

The new Burton Riglet Park anchors a multi-faceted ski and ride terrain-based learning facility in the base area. The Burton Riglet Park allows riders 3-6 to experience sliding on snow. Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is an official Rossignol Experience Center and Burton Learn to Ride Center.

Nature group offers fly-fishing workshop

Durango Nature Studies will host a fly-fishing workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Nature Center.

The cost is $10 for nonmembers and free for members.

All workshop participants receive free entry to the Nature Center, which is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fly fisherman Jake West will lead the workshop.
