Ordinary citizens, time to speak out

By birth or by choice, we Americans are united by the common civic values documented in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. In our 248 years as an independent nation, citizens have rallied in defense of freedom and continue to do so. Former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis (who retired in 1939) stated, “The only title in our democracy superior to that of the President [is] the title of citizen.”

Under this administration, the dismissal of our First Amendment right “the freedom of speech” is a blatant disregard of the Constitution. As citizens, we are bound to resist, oppose, speak out, take action against the policies and politics that threaten our Constitution and freedom. In addition, we are called to defend, support and protect those whose job it is to uphold our laws and, ultimately, our freedom.

It is time for ordinary citizens with the desire to maintain a free country to speak out. Take action by writing or calling your Congressional and Senate representatives. Show your support for those in office who are trying to “do the right thing” and maintain our democracy.

Make that sign, join a peaceful march, attend a local town hall. Thoughtfully choose the right official to represent us locally and in Washington. Be part of our nation’s solution to this Constitutional crisis and make your voice (and vote) count for the continued good of our country.
