Onward! announces scholarship recipients

Onward! A Legacy Foundation, a community foundation dedicated to the philanthropic health of Southwest Colorado, has awarded educational scholarships to local students.

Nicci Crowley, Onward! deputy director, stated, “This year we had a record number of applications received. Even with the March downturn in the market, we were able to support an outstanding number of students with over $69,000 going out for the 2020-2021 academic year.”

The scholarship awardees

Bill and Peg Rees Scholarship: Adam Yoder, Mancos High School $2000/yearly renewable scholarship; Nanabah Sam, Grand Canyon University (former MCHS graduate); Katelynn Sweat, Colorado University-Denver (former MCHS graduate); Dylan Long, University of Wyoming (former MCHS graduate) $2000/yearly renewed scholarship.

MCHS Alumni Scholarship (MCHS specific scholarship): Casen Allmon, $1000 non-renewable scholarship

Leonard Cain Medical Scholarship: Taylor Hickman, Dove Creek High School; Salem Knuckles, Montezuma-Cortez High School; Taegan Allen, Montezuma-Cortez High School $500 each non-renewable scholarship.

Hoover Endowed Medical Scholarship: Taylor Hickman, Dove Creek High School; Salem Knuckles, Montezuma-Cortez High School $2500 each non-renewable scholarship.

Shaun M. McAndrew Memorial Scholarship (MCHS specific scholarship): Hayden Leggett, $1000 non-renewable scholarship

Vic and Ethel Poma Pagosa Springs Scholarship (PSHS specific scholarship): Ryan Lewis; Gabriela Gallegos $1000 each non-renewable scholarship.

Roland R. Heartwood Scholarship: Taelynn Comisky, Montezuma-Cortez High School $1000 non-renewable scholarship; Logan Birch, Montezuma-Cortez High School $750 non-renewable scholarship; Nanabah Sam, Grand Canyon University (MCHS graduate) $1000 non-renewable scholarship.

Mancos Centennial Scholarship: Andrew Ruatti, Mancos High School; Adam Yoder, Mancos High School $1000 each non-renewable scholarship.

Cone Family Scholarship (MCHS specific scholarship): Matthew Broughton, Colorado School of Mines $750 renewed scholarship; Morgan Jones, Colorado Mesa University $1000 renewed scholarship; William Broughton, Colorado School of Mines $500 renewed scholarship.
