A winter storm remains on track to hit eastern Utah and western Colorado Friday through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow levels are expected to drop to elevations of 6,000 feet in Montezuma County by Friday morning. The storm is expected to dump 6-12 inches of snow in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado, including the towns of Rico, Hesperus, Telluride, Silverton and Ouray. Up to 18 inches of snow is possible at higher elevations.

The storm was expected to arrive in Montezuma County on Thursday night. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Friday, there’s a 50 percent chance of snow before 2 p.m., followed by rain. The daytime high temperature will reach 43 degrees on Friday afternoon, followed by overnight low of 28 degrees and a 40 percent chance of snow after 9 p.m.

Saturday, the chance of rain and snow falls to about 20 percent, with a high temperature near 43 degrees and a low near 28.

Mostly sunny skies are expected Sunday through Tuesday, with high temperatures in the mid-50s and lows near 30.
